Getting the ball rolling is a profile on Maria Albert who has been part of the JOYN team since October 2022. With an original background as a marketer, Maria is an absolute expert when it comes to recruiting for positions within sales and marketing. Firstly, tell us about your recruitment journey.
I fell into recruitment after having completed some sales and marketing plans for Honda NZ dealerships while working as a Marketing Consultant. My first assignment was to help rebuild a sales team and since then I have recruited hundreds of sales team members for Honda and other clients over the years. My career in marketing also lead to me recruiting marketers at all levels as it was a good fit for my skills.
What is the most rewarding part of the work you do and why?
The key thing that drew me to recruitment and has kept me here, is the enjoyment I get from putting people together, helping job seekers take their next career step while finding the right fit for my clients.
What are you currently working on with JOYN?
I’m currently working on finding a Sales Manager and Sales Support Consultant for a Gourmet Food Distributor and a Key Account/Customer Delivery Manager and Technical Solutions Engineer for a global tech client for their team in Malaysia.
How does working as a JOYN Consultant fit into your life?
Working with JOYN provides me flexibility and exposure to clients in a wide range of industries. For example, I never thought I would be recruiting tech candidates for a software company but that opportunity has enabled me to develop some new skills.

What do you believe is important for employers to consider when hiring in the current market?
Be prepared for a high volume of applications which can be blessing and a curse at the same time. Even if you have a clear criterion for your next hire, the process of identifying the right people can be very time consuming. Providing a great candidate experience is so important as it reflects on your employer brand. Being responsive and accessible is the minimum expectation from job seekers. Enlisting the help of a professional to run this process for you can be valuable.
